Ring size is the same measurement for everyone, the inside circumference of the band. Men simply tend toward the larger end of the scale because of hand and finger size. Because a wedding band is worn daily and rarely removed, getting the size right matters more than for a fashion ring you can slip off, so measure at the end of the day and re-check a few times.

If the band is wide, common for men's rings, remember that it covers more of the finger and feels tighter than a thin band of the same size. Size up a quarter to a half size for anything wider than about 6 millimetres.

Men's ring size questions

What is the average men's ring size?

Most men wear US 9 to 10.5 (UK R to U, EU 59 to 63). Larger hands often fall at US 11 or 12. Because a wedding band is worn every day, measure rather than guess.

Are men's and women's ring sizes measured the same way?

Yes. Ring size is the inside circumference of the band regardless of gender, so a men's US 7 and a women's US 7 are the same physical size. Men simply tend toward larger sizes.

Should a man size up for a wide wedding band?

Yes. Wide bands sit tighter, so for a band wider than about 6 millimetres, go up a quarter to a half size for comfort.
